Many Excel users have received little or no formal training to help them use the ubiquitous productivity application. This session can help users that wish to improve their Excel skills to increase their productivity. The material starts by covering basic topics such as time saving tips and keyboard shortcuts and then moves to more advanced areas like conditional formatting and complex formula building. Users that find themselves looking at the spreadsheets that others design and wishing they could do as much with Excel will benefit greatly by taking this course.

Highlights

This session is taught using a Hands-On methodology. We provide practice files that tie to the examples in the course materials so participants can undertake all the steps in unison with the instructor for a greatly improved learning experience. The topics discussed in this session include:

  • Excel shortcuts and time savers.
  • Working with templates, formats, styles and themes.
  • Customizing and enhancing Excel.
  • Protecting and securing workbooks.
  • Formula building and the excel function library.

Objectives

Once participants have completed this session, they should be able to:

  • Recognize the many keyboard shortcuts that are available to save time and effort.
  • Indicate how one would use Excel Templates, Styles and Themes to add uniformity to workbooks they design or edit.
  • Indicate how a user can design custom number and date formats to meet their specific needs.
  • Recognize ways to add security to the workbooks they use. This includes workbook encryption, and the use of sheet level, range level, and cell level security features.
  • Recognize formula building conventions such as order of operation.
  • Recall how to troubleshoot formulas that are not working properly, and
  • Recall how to work with functions in the Excel function library to create powerful formulas.

Instructors

Karl W. Egnatoff, CPA, CITP

Karl Egnatoff is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) currently living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He has worked as an information technology services provider, a trainer and a programmer related to financial and business technology projects since 1995. Prior to this, Karl worked in public accounting as well as in private sector accounting for a period of approximately six years. He has been teaching group live and web-based continuing education since 2006. In addition to being a CPA, he is also a Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP).

Karl is a member of the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Information Technology Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also achieved a number of technology certifications including Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Certified Software Engineer (CSE) and Certified Integration Developer (CID). During the course of his career, Mr. Egnatoff has owned and operated a number of successful businesses.

Karl graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. During his time in college he participated in division I Cross County competing on the varsity squad. He was also on Marshall's Track team. Karl and his wife Lana live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and have been married since 1990. They have two grown sons, Jordan and Steven.
