Director of Accounting Services
Description
The Director of Accounting Services is a collaborative partner of the Lee University leadership team and is responsible for all aspects of financial affairs including accounting, accounts payable, payroll, federal funds accounting and cash management. Other responsibilities include financial & management reporting, preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), coordination of the annual audits with independent auditors, budget preparation and reporting, and supervision of the Accounting Services Department.
The Director of Accounting Services will work closely with the Vice President for Business & Finance and interacts with other senior administrators, deans, directors, faculty, staff, and community members to manage and strengthen Lee University’s business, financial, administrative policies, and strategies to achieve the institution’s goals.
Education & Work Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
•Five years of experience in a managerial, supervisory accounting position with an emphasis on fund accounting or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
•Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred but not required.
Skill & Knowledge Requirements:
•Strong understanding of general accounting principles (GAAP).
•Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and sustain a strong Accounting Services team, while also providing a positive customer friendly environment to the institution.
•Ability to interact, negotiate and communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.
•Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment; interacting with individuals with discretion and can manage issues of a confidential nature.
•Time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize according to deadlines.
•Strong written communication skills to maintain large amounts of data and paperwork.
•Flexibility to improve and adapt to the needs and demands of the institution.
Essential Functions:
•Responsible for financial affairs, including accounting, accounts payable, payroll, federal funds accounting and cash management.
•Provides supervision over the day-to-day functions of the Accounting Services Office.
•Supervises the internal auditing procedures, including reconciliation of all accounts and preparation of interim and annual financial reports.
•Oversees accounting internal controls and coordinates annual audits with independent auditors and preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
•Responsible for preparation of reports for Federal Government and other organizations.
•Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures.
•Manages cash flow and short-term investments.
•Manages multiple projects simultaneously while also meeting imperative deadlines.
•Serves on various committees as appointed.
