BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Will Pugh, CPA, of Knoxville, was recently presented with the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2023 TSCPApex Lifetime Achievement Award.
The TSCPApex Awards Program recognizes the many ways that individuals contribute significant time, energy and intellect to developing the accounting profession and fostering its success. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given in recognition of a TSCPA member who has exhibited leadership, made significant contributions to the profession and had an outstanding record of service to the society and the local community.
A TSCPA member and a CPA since 1968, Pugh has served as a leader in the society for over 50 years. He has served as TSCPA Board Chair, been a member of TSCPA Council for over 50 years, served in several other board roles and been a key liaison between the society and the Tennessee Legislature.
Pugh has contributed his expertise to other accounting organizations as well. He served 18 years on the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy, serving six years as chair, and helped draft legislation for changes in Tennessee’s accountancy law, including Tennessee being the first state to pass the Uniform Accountancy Act in 1998. Pugh’s service to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants led him to be recognized in the Congressional Record in 1991, and he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2000 from the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, where he served on the board for eight years. He has also received the Institute of Management Accountants’ Outstanding Achievement Award. Early in his career, Pugh founded the firm Pugh CPAs, where he is still president. In 2017, he was inducted into the East Tennessee Business Hall of Fame.
