Freeman Receives Women to Watch Award From Tennessee Society of CPAs
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Dr. Michelle Freeman, CPA, of Greeneville, was recently presented with the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2023 TSCPApex Women to Watch (Experienced Leader) Award.
The TSCPApex Awards Program recognizes the many ways that individuals contribute significant time, energy and intellect to developing the accounting profession and fostering its success. The Women to Watch (Experienced Leader) Award highlights the accomplishments of women in the profession and demonstrates to emerging female leaders that success is not out of reach.
Dr. Freeman has served TSCPA in many ways over her career. She has served as TSCPA Appalachian Chapter President, a member of TSCPA Council and on the Nominating Committee for a number of years. She has also written and reviewed many articles for the society’s Tennessee CPA Journal. Dr. Freeman has been actively involved in TSCPA’s Student Nights and Discover Accounting Program at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where she is an associate professor of accounting and graduate coordinator of the MAcc Program.
Outside the society, Dr. Freeman has mentored hundreds of students over her 25 years as an accounting professor. She has also led the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at ETSU and serves on a multitude of committees for the College of Business and Technology at ETSU, including as Bachelor of Business Administration Committee Chair. She also serves as chair of the Greeneville City Schools Education Foundation and Greeneville Schools in Action Treasurer.
