Staff Spotlight: Kate Smith
TSCPA Communications Associate Kate Smith always knew she would work in communications, as she felt like she had been a student of the field from a young age. “Since I’m autistic and rarely spoke in public until I was in my 20s, I think I threw myself into learning how to express myself in other ways – whether it was writing, choreography or songwriting,” she says. “Communication has always been my passion.”
In her role at TSCPA, where she has worked for four years, Kate is responsible for writing and editing communications/publications and for TSCPA Talks online community administration. She also assists with CPE live streams as needed. “Our members do such important work, and I really enjoy playing a part in helping them connect with one another and stay up to date on what’s going on in their profession.”
Growing up in Minnesota, Kate attended Minnesota State College and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She worked in nonprofit marketing communications for nearly 10 years before moving to Tennessee in 2018. In her free time, she enjoys making music, working out and meditating.
