McConnell Receives Emerging Leader Award From Tennessee Society of CPAs
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Heath McConnell, CPA, of Blountville, was recently presented with the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2024 TSCPApex Emerging Leader Award.
The TSCPApex Awards Program recognizes the many ways that individuals contribute significant time, energy and intellect to developing the accounting profession and fostering its success. The Emerging Leader Award is presented to an individual who has made noteworthy professional accomplishments and stood out in the areas of professional knowledge, skill, integrity and leadership.
As he approaches his 10th anniversary of entering the accounting profession, McConnell has demonstrated his dedication to advancing the profession in many ways. As a TSCPA member, he has served five years in the Appalachian Chapter officer rotation, including as chapter president. Currently a member of the Federal Tax Committee, McConnell has also served on TSCPA Council. As a continuing professional education instructor, he has given several presentations at Appalachian Chapter meetings as well as at the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Annual Accounting Update Conference.
As an adjunct professor at ETSU, where he has taught since 2021, McConnell is well-respected among his students for his knowledge base and his commitment to helping them meet their academic goals. He has also served the university and the community as a dedicated volunteer with ETSU’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for over 10 years. In addition to his teaching career, McConnell works as a senior tax manager for Alpha Metallurgical Resources, receiving three promotions over the course of his time with the company and its predecessors. In his free time, he has also engaged in volunteer lobbying work on behalf of the accounting profession.
