Staff Spotlight: Aleshia Garrett
As TSCPA Director of Communications & Technology, Aleshia Garrett has been able to strike a balance between her two lifelong interests – computers and creativity. “Both my parents worked in graphic design (and my mom produced her own magazine for a while) – I spent many days after school at the print shop.”
Born in Oklahoma and raised in Ooltewah, Tennessee, Aleshia inherited her parents’ love of art. “For a long time, we had a potter’s wheel in our kitchen, canvases being painted in the living room, and a stained glass studio in my parents’ bedroom,” she recalls. “When I went to college, I originally wanted to be an artist but changed my major to public relations.”
In her role at TSCPA, where she has worked since 2011, Aleshia provides oversight of communications, marketing and technology. “Through TSCPA, I have met some of the most wonderful people, learned so much about accounting and money management, and have gained a new appreciation for spreadsheets.”
Outside of work, Aleshia enjoys creating art and raising the rare breed of Valais Blacknose Sheep with her husband. “I know how to hand-spin yarn, weave and crochet, and I also incorporate their wool into my paintings. After working with computers all day, it’s nice to spend time creating with my hands.”
