Meet the Chapter President: Lindsey Franks, CPA
For TSCPA Knoxville Chapter President Lindsey Franks, CPA, being a CPA is about more than working with numbers – it’s a chance to provide encouragement for others in the profession and offer support for the next generation of CPAs. “Since I entered the profession, I have found joy in helping others in the profession,” she says. In her time as a TSCPA member, Franks has been particularly fond of the connections she has made with the Knoxville Chapter Young CPAs and the networking events she has helped coordinate for the group. “One of my favorite Young CPA events has been the Ice Bear hockey game!” she says. “I have enjoyed bringing the Young CPAs together and giving a space for others to grow.”
Tell us a little about yourself, your family and where you grew up.
I graduated from East Tennessee State University with my master’s in accounting. I have worked in public accounting for six years doing business tax. I have a family of three and two dogs. My husband and son bring so much joy to my life.
What do you do now, and why did you choose to become a CPA?
Currently, I do corporate and partnership tax returns. I have really found joy in getting to learn about products that we see every day in the “wild.” I chose to go into tax because I found it interesting.
What do you like most about your job?
I love getting to learn new things every day. The issues might be similar, but it’s always different. The laws are constantly changing, so we have the opportunity to see new things.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
We had a crazy spur-of-the-moment idea of raising highland cattle. We called our little adventure “wild hair farms.” Our first cow, Bonnie, would follow my husband around like a dog.
Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family. You can find us outside bike riding or riding our tractor around our neighborhood. If you see us out on the town, you will more likely see us with a bike in tow. During busy season, I have started umpiring baseball. I have found that it really makes me take a break from being in the office and gives me a reason to get some fresh air.
Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would encourage the readers to get involved with their chapters - just come to a chapter meeting or an event! Getting together with your peers who are dealing with similar problems can be refreshing and give new ideas. It’s nice being able to talk about an issue and not have to explain the basic concepts (bless my husband).
