OMB Issues Memorandum on Zero-Trust Strategy for Federal Agencies
The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) recently issued a memorandum detailing a zero-trust architecture (ZTA) strategy, requiring federal agencies to meet specific cybersecurity standards and objectives by the end of fiscal year 2024.
Standards and practices outlined include:
- Use of multifactor authentication
 - Full accounting of all devices authorized for use in government
 - Encryption of all DNS and HTTP traffic
 - Regular security testing of all applications
 - Adoption of data categorization and cloud security services to monitor data access
 
The strategy targets the security of user identities, devices, networks, applications and data.
