What's an accountant, and what exactly do they do?

Accountants are the backbone of the business world. They're the professionals who work with clients  from individuals and small companies to large corporations, government agencies and nonprofits  to keep their finances in check.

Accountants can be very generalized or incredibly specialized in the work they do. A degree in accounting, along with passing the CPA Exam, will open doors to a variety of career options, so consider taking your accounting career to a higher level by becoming a certified public accountant (CPA). CPAs are licensed professionals who can do more than your average accountant (such as provide attestation services).
