Burger Receives Impact Award From Tennessee Society of CPAs
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Shannon Burger, DSc, CPA, MBA, of Chattanooga, was recently presented with the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2024 TSCPApex Impact Award.
The TSCPApex Awards Program recognizes the many ways that individuals contribute significant time, energy and intellect to developing the accounting profession and fostering its success. The Impact Award is given to a TSCPA member who has distinguished himself or herself in philanthropic activities.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for helping others, Burger has been working to make a difference in community health care. For the past eight years, she has been the chief executive officer at Cempa Community Care, a federally qualified health center and infectious disease specialty practice. Under Burger’s leadership, Cempa has achieved milestones such as opening its own pharmacy and dental clinic, goals years in the making. The organization has also received numerous awards and accolades during her time at the helm, including the Governor’s Award of Excellence in 2020.
Outside of work, Burger places a strong focus on civic engagement. She currently serves as board president for the Ryan White Clinics for 340B Access, and she is also a board member of the Tennessee Primary Care Association. In her service to TSCPA, Burger chairs the Governmental and Not-for-Profit Conference Planning Committee and has been a member of the Health Care Conference Planning Committee. Additionally, Burger is paving the way to protect community health clinics that provide HIV care against predatory billing practices. Because of her team's efforts, legislation related to this issue in Tennessee is influencing similar legislation in other states. Burger also recently received her doctoral degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
